thrill of the hunt

Now that I am home, sorting through all of my finds, and all the great finds for work I thought it would be the perfect time to share a few pictures from my week away.

tons, and tons of old boxes, great for personal use and display

Like they were made for me

For those of you who follow me on Instagram {kohliflick} and Twitter you have probably noticed that my trip this week is kick ass. We have been finding some fantastic things, and as usual I am finding some amazing things for myself. My favorite by far is this silver plated flatware.

Amazing right! It gets better… The knives, a set of spoons, serving fork and one loan fork are all monogrammed with F’s. Like they were made for me.

You also need to know that finding vintage F things is nearly impossible. Literally until this trip I had only found about five decent F’s. Perhaps I am to picky, but really, they are just not out there.

See, not one F, no where, not one. I did manage to find one nice bronze F for our dining room wall which I will share a bit later. I’m off to bed for the night, early morning again tomorrow.

on the road again

It’s Monday again and I am on the road for work. I don’t think that I will be making any more appearances here this week, but you never know! Hopefully I will have some good finds to share. You can see a small bit from a great truck that I found last year in photo of my delicious breakfast bellow. This is one of my favorite morning starters. Greek yogurt, fresh berries, and some kind of crunchy cereal. Simple, healthy, and fast. What more could a gal want?

Have a great week if I do not make it back!

what a week

Have you ever done something with the best of intentions only to have it blow up in your face? Well that is what happened to me last week. We were headed home for a week of rest and relaxation with my parents. I thought, what a great time to make some changes on my site. I’ll have large chunks of time that I can sit down, un interrupted, and really get into some projects.

We pack up, have a calm ride to the airport, walk 5 feet in and Mr. Awesome stops in his tracks. He has forgotten his iPhone on the charger at home. He turns pale, looks at his watch, and calculates how to get home, retrieve the phone, and make the flight. It is not going to happen. We agree that a friend will overnight it to us, and that will just have to work.

A bit flustered we enter TSA. I am behind a man who takes five bins. Five!!! What is that? I am trying to be efficient and get my laptop, iPad, shoes, scarf, vest, bags, sorted into their two bins and balance the first bin on the counter. As I reach down to pick up my shoes, the bin slips off the table. My laptop and iPad crash to the floor. Upon inspection the case seems a bit dented but fine. There is nothing that I can do about it so I move along.

Two nights later we are all sitting around the kitchen table and I turn the laptop on. Nothing happens. I shut it down. I start it up. I shut it down. I start it up. Nothing… I make an appointment for the next day.

The next day I am told that I could sell the laptop for parts for as much as the replacement part to fix it will cost. I buy a new computer. The screen is not working, so I pay to have the hard rive transferred. Four hours later I get a call that my computers are ready for pick up and nothing had been transferred because… the hard drive is dead. Fantastic!!!

We have now made it back home and I am making my way through restoring for my external hard drive. It looks like I did not loose anything, fingers crosses. Now I just have to protect this one with my life. Oof…

good old southern food

I spent the past few days in North Carolina on a buying trip with work. While on these trips we always try and find some good eats, sometime it is easy, and sometimes it is not. This trip proved to be a bit more of a challenge. In the end we did end up with some good eats, and southern staples.

Day One

A completely new eatery to me, Biscuitville is just as it says. They serve biscuits with different items on them and that is about it. Open from 5am to 2pm, it is really for the early birds. We ate here twice, really there were not a lot of options. My highlight was the warm syrup dispenser right next to the iced teas at the beverage counter.

Day Two

The Waffle House, yet another new experience for me. For years I have heard friends from the south speak fondly of the Waffle House and how wonderful it is. I am not quite sure where they were as opposed to where I was. Let’s just say that I can say that I have been there and never need to go back. In all reality it was fine, just not something that I need to repeat.

Day Three

Again, Biscuitville… During this trip I noticed that there are no vegetables on the menu. It was then pointed out to me that on the club sandwich lies a lonely tomato, and small bit of lettuce. Other than that, none, no where, nothing. How is this possible?

Day Four

On the way home we stopped in Greensboro, North Carolina for some Barbecue. I tried some chicken, and chopped pork with sides of coleslaw, and baked beans. The highlights were the hush puppies, and the iced tea. Not only was it the best tea that I had while I was traveling but it was served with crushed ice, could it be any better?

Now that I am home I am eating as many salads and vegetables as a person can in a day.

Momofuku Noodle Bar

So I made it to two of my three food stops in New York last week. I ended up swapping Buvette for The Meatball Shop and dinner with an old friend. As always all of the meals were out of this world. While dining at Momofuku Noodle Bar I had to be remind every time a new plate came that I should take photo, then eat. I am thankful for the stern warnings that my eating partner provided as I now have a great journal of the evening.

Food Adventures in New York City

I am so excited to be in New York this week for the International Gift Fair. Not only do I get to see gorgeous products, and meet wonderful people, but I am also lucky enough to eat some fantabulous food. I am hoping to be able to find a seat at Buvette, and Momofuku Noodle Bar, fingers crossed. Tonight we have reservations at ABC Kitchen which means that I also get to take a spin around ABC Carpet & Home. Bon appetite!

Alt Summit

Sunday night I returned from a fantastic five days in Salt Lake City for the Alt Summit. The summit was a great learning experience personally and professionally. I was also luck enough to travel with Katie of Petal and Print, and Carmen of Trohv. It was lovely to spend a few days away with the girls being inspired, eating good food, and making new friends. I thought that I would share some of my favorite moments from the summit with all of you!

Alt Summit

Just wanted to pop in and say a quick hello from Alt Summit. I stumbled across these tiny gelatos in the lobby of our amazing hotel yesterday.

What to Wear

In 8 days I head off to Salt Lake City and Alt Summit. After talking about this for two years, I am lucky enough to finally be going and can’t wait. I have done all the fun stuff like signing up for camps, and picking what round table discussions I would like to attend. Now I am left with the daunting task of what to wear.

On Thursday night there is a large soiree Dinner en Blanc. Somehow I missed the en Blanc part and am now in a tizzy to try and figure out something to wear. So I have gone hunting for inspiration, here are a few of my thoughts.
