Mythic Paint

I was in Ace hardware yesterday and found myself staring at the wall of Mythic paint cans. Have you seen them? They are gorgeous. I was immediately inspired to find something else to paint in my house. After a day of thinking I remembered that all of my favorite people are coming to visit next month and I would really like to get our guest room tidied up for their visits. The guest room is the last major room in our house to have not received a makeover since we moved in. I am not sure yet what I am going to do, but I here are some colors that I am thinking about.

Welcome

Whenever I go home my mom always has fresh flowers in my old room. It always makes me feel so special, and let’s me know how excited she is to have me there. I have always aspired to  be a lady with a fantastic guest room. A place where my friends and family can come and feel like they are really appreciated. Soft sheets, fluffy down comforters, and a great welcome basket. A toothbrush, incase one was forgotten, fabulous towels, some nibbles, reading, and a little note to let them know they are loved all go into my welcome baskets. What goes into yours?

1. Guest toothbrushes by Izola 2. Turkish towels from Antiochia 3. Anthology Magazine 4. Note card from Rifle Paper Co. 5. Water carafe from Williams-Sonoma 6. Salt Caramels from Nunu 7. Apricot Green Tea Gummies from Bissinger’s

double it up

I am always on the hunt for rugs. Primarily because I can’t face spending $1,000 on something that will have dirty dog paws, trampling across it. Coffee and food spilled on it, and lord knows what else. Perhaps one day, but today is not that day. I was thrilled when I found this rug from Urban Outfitters for $69. It is probably a bit small for most rooms, but you can easily purchase two, attach them, and still have a rug for far less than most other options.

confetti system

Have you seen any of the fabulous work from Nicholas Andersen and Julie Ho of Confetti System? I am absolutely in love with the tassel garlands that they make. I first noticed them in J. Crew’s windows last fall, and have been dreaming of them ever since. I think that they would be perfect for most any party, and delightful in a child’s room.  I think that I might even get a strand and hang it on the wall above our bed.

long weekend

I have a four day weekend starting at 8pm tomorrow night and I am so excited! I am not traveling, or visiting with in-laws. No meetings, nothing on my calendar. It will be a proper stay-cation and I could not be more excited! Of course I had to make plans, but ones that I have laid out, and am giddy about!

a little bit of backstory…

We moved into our house two years ago this month { how can it possibly be two years} and I have used my studio as little more than a dumping ground. I have re-organized, and changed the layout about three or four times, but have not found the best fit for me. The main problem is that I was trying to only work with what I already had, and without adding anything new to the mix it did not work out.

Last weekend I made the trek to the suburbs and IKEA. {I have a love hate relationship with IKEA, but that is a story for another day!} I also purchased some much needed paint.  All of the walls in our house were painted the same color when we moved in, “sell it” cream or something along those lines, Navaho White by Sherwin Williams in our case. {Apparently people purchase homes based on wall colors, ridiculous, but again, this is a story for another day!} Last year when we were painting most of the other rooms in our house, I discovered that Lowe’s had the recipes for all of the Benjamin Moore paints, and I have never looked back! I save a ton of money, about half the price, and still get exactly what I want!

So in summation, this weekend, on my four day stay-cation, I will be renovating my studio, and hopefully making it a more pleasant, inspirational, and useful space! Below are a few of the goodies that I picked up for the project!

I will be adding before and after photos, and some wish list items to add to the room over time, in the coming weeks!

in love with mae

I am head over heals in love with Mae! The perfect collaboration of Peta, Bec and Emily from Australia.  These reusable, transferable, and dreamy decals are ready for anyone with an imagination.  Unlike many decals these can be moved around, tussled up and used again.  Made from fabric and eco inks they are a perfect playmate for your little one.

Or not so little one. I literally screamed when I came across this lovely lady. I think that we might need to move to accomidate this amazing gal in our house!

K. Flick Studio & Paper Satchel

Melissa and I participated in our first art show at the end of May. I am horribly tardy posting about it.

We had a fantastic time, the weather could not have been better and our booth was overlooking the Delaware River, and of course New Jersey. Our items ended up working together better than we could have planned, and the weekend was hugely successful. Melissa created soft sculpture, no die, terrariums which were breathtaking, and the hit of the show. All of them were sold my noon on the second day, much to my dismay. {I hope she is hard at working making one for me!} There were also meat grinder lamps, amazing. Gorgeous plaster sculpture lights which she cast and lit, and other found object light sculptures.

Melissa also created the best signs ever for the booth. Making chalk board flags that can be used for almost any event she successfully caught the attention of many passers by. Below are some other shots of the booth.

My jewelry did really well. I made a few custom pieces on the spot, and picked up another wholesale account. It was so nice to share the booth with another artist and have our items compliment the others so well. We hope to apply to more shows next spring and will keep you posted.

Stair Runner

When we moved into our house at the beginning of January our poor dog had a rough time. The previous owner has recently refinished the floors and they were, and still are very slippery. Porter, our dog, is small, fuzzy and has hair between his toes. The poor guy does not have traction anywhere in our house. He has done alright navigating on the first and second floor but getting between the two has been a doozy! In the beginning we would have to carry his toys up and down because he could not manage both, and in that dark, he would sit at the top of the stairs and cry because he was scared to go down. So sad…

Immediately my husband and I decided that we were going to have to install stair runners a bit sooner than planned. Fortunately I knew exactly what I wanted. For years I have been looking at Dash and Albert rugs. I first came to know them at In Watermelon Sugar in the Hampden area of Baltimore. And last year I was working on a small design project and the client had fallen in love with one of their rugs. So here is the rug that she loved, and now I love and hope to install in our house.

{Dash & Albert Rug, Plain Tin Wool}

The wonderful thing about this company is that most rugs come in a variety of sizes so if you like a pattern in most cases there is going to be a piece that works for you. Also, I find that their prices are extremely reasonable, which is nice because rugs seem to be so expensive! Who knows when we will get around to ordering and installing it, but at lease we are done with the search!

Also, if you have not been and are in the area, I highly recommend visiting In Watermelon Sugar located at 3555 Chestnut Ave. in Hampden. It is one of my favorite stores in Baltimore, Leslie, the owner does a wonderful job with buying and display. Everything in the store makes sense and is always inspirational. This Friday is the First Friday event in Hampden and would be a wonderful time to stop by. Most stores are open late, until about 8-9pm. Many have food and libations and a few might have live music. Just a thought!

A New Home

Recently, my husband and I purchased our first home. After years of living in small apartments, and being separated from many items due to lack of space we are beginning to unearth treasures that we have long since forgotten about. But that is not really what I am writing about today.

For a long time, a really long time, I have been tearing inspirational images out of anything that I could tear them out of. All for the one day when I would own my own home and I could reference these images to create my dream. So now I have all these images, semi organized, depending on when they were collected, and I have started a laundry list of “things I need for my new home”. {need being the important word here, I do not really need any of them at this point, need is a word that I freely interchange with want, this is important to know about me} So on my list I have many things from paint colors, and stair runners, to fancy kitchen ranges, and walk in showers.

However there is one very small item, one that I have been excited to purchase from the time that my husband and I became engaged and were becoming a family. It is really very simple, but seems to mean a lot to me for no apparent reason. At the top of my list right now is an address stamp. So I have been on the hunt. I think that I have found some really good choices on etsy and I can’t wait to make a decision and order one.

Here is what I have so far…

I still have to weigh in with my significant other on his preference. I think that I am going to continue to look around, just to keep my options open, but hope to make a decision soon.

To be continued…

Casual Elegance

I decided a while ago, that the style for the wedding is casual elegance, a style in which I strive to live, but do not always achieve, but hey, I am still young right…

Currently our abode does not have a washer and dryer and we are back to doing laundry at the laundromat, one of my favorite activities in life. When we work up this morning and were talking about what our plans were for the weekend I mentioned that we had to do some serious laundry, and almost as if it were fate, when I jumped on the computer this morning I found this great laundry bag, which I think is definetely casual elegance, from India Rose. I think it might also make a really great back bag, or general catch all, because lets face it, when you do not have your own washer and dryer you have way more laundry to do at one time then normal.
