yum yum

Every Sunday, for almost a year now, we have been getting together with some of our closest friends for Sunday Supper. It is a really nice way to catch up after a busy week. We try to rotate from house to house, and with a three week rotation it is rather easy to keep up with.

Last night Mr. Awesome and I hosted and decided to go with the all American classic, Sloppy Joes. None of us grew up eating these but are all familiar with the sandwich in a can, Manwhich. Fortunately for everyone we did not pop open a can but made these gems from scratch. They are really a sinch to make, and a great way to get vegetable into kiddos.

old fashioned

So finally on Sunday, after months of waiting, Mad Men premiered for it’s fifth season. Did you watch? We did. What did you think? I am still digesting everything, and think that I might go back and re-watch it but in general I’m excited for the season. Monday’s Fresh Air was completely dedicated to Matthew Weiner, the creator of Man Men. The show gave some insight into the plot and character choices that were made. If you have not already heard it you might want to take a listen.

In honor of the show my husband, sometimes we call him Mr. Awesome, made Old Fashioned cocktails for all of us. They were perfect!

Mr. Awesome’s Old Fashioned

orange | maraschino cherries | bourbon  | water

ice |lemon | sugar cubes | orange bitters

place one sugar cube  in a rocks glass

+ add +

3 dashes of orange bitters  – 1 teaspoon maraschino cherry juice   1 teaspoon water

use your muddler and crush up the sugar cube until it is dissolved

+ add +

a section of the orange & one cherry – muddle these with the sugar mixture

+ add +

2.5oz bourbon & continue to muddle

+ add +

 ice to fill the glass

cut a tick piece of lemon rind – twist it to release the oils and rim the glass  - drop it into the cocktail

a good Old Fashioned should take no less than 3 minutes to make

These are one of my favorite drinks. I highly suggest you try one out if you are not already a fan. Cheers!

A Day at the Beach

It is now the middle of January so it can only mean one thing. The annual watching of The OC!!! Admittedly one of my favorite days of the year. We open our house to al those that would like to watch, make snacks, and power watch as many episodes as we can. One might say it is my Super Bowl.

I planned the menu, very important, this morning and think that these will provide some good nourishment for the day. Oh and a bottle of tequila. I will share our cocktail choices on Monday!

Have a great weekend.

A Time Gone By

Do you ever wonder what life might have been like in a time gone by? I do. It does not help that I love period pieces done by the BBC, like say Pride and Prejudice.  A group of artist from wroth100.com came together to create this great compilation on images of celebrities. The twist being that they were all places in Renaissance styled paintings. Interesting how some fit right in!

I originally came across this series on Beautiful Life, and you can find a ton of other images there like Johnny Depp and, Drew Barrymore. Well worth the visit!

skins, the original

I am sure by now everyone has heard the controversy over the MTV show Skins. With threats of child pornography, most of the cast is under 18, the show has been pulled back from it’s original vision. I have not seen the show, but am sure that I will check it out eventually, because let’s face it, I love trashy teenage drama!

Skins is based on the original show, Skins from England. Think The Office England turns into The Office USA. My lovely husband found the original show on Netflix and we have been busy watching it ever since. If you have Netflix, some time, and are in the mood for some fantastic British TV I would suggest that you check it out!
