where have I been? at becket hitch!

Hi there, I know, I know it’s been forever, but for a good reason. I opened a store! I know crazy right, a baby and a store in the same year, well within 12 months.

Becket Hitch has been a dream of mine for years and I still can’t believe that it has happened. The store has a little bit of everything from cards and paper goods to gift for babies, and kitchen items. I have stocked the shelves with items that I have loved for years and some new goods that I just found. It’s a little bit of a problem not taking it all home with me at the end of the night.

So I hope that you all will join me over on the BH blog and follow along on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter.

I also wanted to let you know about the amazing floral workshop that we are hosting in conjunction with Make Tribe and Petal and Print this weekend. There are still a few tickets available and you can pick them up here.

make it … embroidered gloves

Did you know that it is the end of December already? Christmas is on Wednesday which means that there are only nine days left in 2013. I am still busy gathering and making gifts for friends and family and always on the look out for a personal, easy, and fun gift. Country Living stopped me in my tracks with these super cute gloves.

278bdc847bd4e522e10d7756edd4f8eeSo good right! Really easy to source the materials, try Target for the gloves, and Michael’s for embroidery floss. Have fun with your sayings, make them quirky and personal. Please remember to stay classy, you don’t want your friends to add these to the donation pile right away. If you are not feeling confident with your word-craft try a monogram on the wrist, or in the corner of a scarf. Happy crafting!

cook it … the best banana bread ever

I love, love, love banana bread. Well as long as it is nut free. I hate when there are nuts polluting a good piece of banana bread, pumpkin bread, brownies, cookies, really anything. So now that we have that out of the way let’s talk about this banana bread. It is moist, a bit dense, great for breakfast, with tea, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert. Super easy to make, and the perfect use for the bananas that have been on your counter a bit to long. Don’t pretend that you don’t have them, we all do. If I buy five bananas, or seven bananas, there is always at least one, ok let’s be honest, at least two, that do not get eaten. So now instead of saying adieu to those sad over ripe bananas I send them to rest in the freezer until I am ready to bake some bread.

Have you ever frozen bananas? If you have you are well aware of how gross they get. They turn dark brown verging on black, and when they thaw they ooze a brown banana liquid… gross! Hold on, hold on, it’s not all bad. Frozen and thawed bananas actually have way more banana flavor than any fresh bananas that you might use. They are also always really mushy and easy to mix into breads, pies, and puddings. So avert your eyes if you are squeamish and just think about the goal, the best banana bread ever!

the Best Banana Bread Ever

How good does that look! I went overboard this time and tossed in a few chocolate chips, amazing. Are you ready to make some for yourself? I hope so… Here is how you can enjoy the best banana bread ever in about an hour!

it’s my favorite … winter decor

tartan dress

Somehow it is the 4th of December, and I’m not quite sure how that happened. The leaves have all turned and fallen from the trees. Pumpkins have been picked and are now rotting in my back yard only to be born again next spring. Turkeys have been roasted, fried and smoked. Hanukkah has started and is nearly over. My sweet little guy is four months old, and the new year is right around the corner. So it’s December, but that does mean that winter decor is in full swing. I can’t get enough of cozy tartan blankets, fresh greens, candlelight, and cranberries. I do love a cranberry, sugared, baked, stewed, and as decor, I’ll take it all. So as the wind blows, and I hope for snow, I’ll curl up on the sofa with my scotch and try to cherish the last days 2013.

cook it … halloween candy

Don’t let all that Halloween candy go to waste, what a tragedy that would be. I’m going to try some of the sumptuous looking desserts under the guise of football food for our friends on Sunday. I think that any food made for football should be utterly ridiculous in nature so these fit right in.

it’s my favorite … almanac industries clutch

almanac industries clutches | K Flick StudioI am pretty much in love with the new clutches from Almanac Industries, I mean, how could you not be? Screen printed, hand stitched leather, yes please, and this leather is going to darken and get richer over time like any good leather should. They are the perfect size to carry on their own or toss in a larger bag. These days I keep all of my items, wallet, phone, lip balm, letters I keep meaning to mail, in one small clutch. This way I can toss it into the baby bag in the morning before we head out for the day and all my items stay together. Then when I’m out on errands I just bring the clutch in with me and leave the big baby bag in the car. Or if I sneak away on the weekends I just grab the clutch and go. One of these is definitely going on my holiday wish list
